Description:
The project will enable the provision of hearing services in Samoa by running clinics several times a year by Australian volunteers and locally trained assistants. This will involve testing and identifying deaf children at an early age as possible. Refer such children to local medical services and where appropriate fit these children with donated hearing aids to enable them to acquire language and to facilitate their education. They will be referred to teachers of deaf children and sign language interpreters, whose training will be improved by Australian volunteers. Resources materials will be provided for teachers and parents of deaf children. It is also intended to provide and install equipment for dental clinics outside the main centre on the island of Savaii.
